PKs DECIDE 9AAA CHAMPIONSHIP
HENDERSONVILLE -- Regulation and four overtimes could not decide the District 9AAA Tournament champion. But penalty kicks did Friday night at Field of Dreams.And it was Mt. Juliet capping off over 110 minutes of soccer with a win by outscoring Hendersonville 4-3 in penalty kicks for a 2-1 victory -- snapping the Commandos' 13-game win streak.
The Bears were able to stop the Commandos' bid for three straight tournament titles thanks to the four penalty kicks after regulation and a goal with less than two minutes remaining in regulation.
Mt. Juliet (11-7-1) hosted Dickson County (15-2-2) Tuesday in the Region 5AAA semifinal. Hendersonville (16-3-1) played at District 10AAA champion Rossview (14-4-2) in the other semifinal.Mt. Juliet's penalty kick goals came from Nick Jackel, Eric Whitmire, Cameron Woodfin and Colbe Earles had the game-winner.
On Friday, Bryce DeGuira, Randy Reichenberger and Joseph Earl all scored penalty kicks for the Commandos.Hendersonville's Caleb Brown scored the first goal of the match midway through the first half. The Commandos gave up the game-tying goal inside of two minutes left in regulation.
