You don't have to travel to some far-off theatre to experience quality acting.
On Friday, March 3, the Encore Theatre Company, located in Mt. Juliet, Tenn., went up with lights with its presentation of the show Par for the Corpse.
The play will have you captivated and crying with laughter throughout. It takes place in a fancy estate in the Catskills. The play follows the escapades of award winning novelist, Andy.
Things do go a little far off the track when the guests arrive and they start to do die one by one. This means that one of her party goers is the killer. The banter between the guests while they try to figure out who the killer is will have you in tears.
The ending presents a twist that you will not have seen coming in a million years.
However, that is not what truly brings the show to life. What brings the show to life is the cast, director Michael Rex and his vision for the stage. The set was decorated in a manner that made it feel like you were watching an old timey movie.
I think this set design helped tie the characters together.
Now speaking of the characters - everyone did a fantastic job. The opening bit of banter between Gert and Andy, played by Elizabeth Hayes and Debbie Smith, had the full house bellowing with laughter. The laughter does not stop with the introduction of the rest of the cast, Hazel Corlian and Bettina Redmond, played by Cynthia Fox and Karen Yates.
The effort and fabulous acting made it feel like it was not a play but in fact a movie. With all of these key components it made for a great show. If you want to go and have a great laugh and watch quality theatre, upcoming shows will be March 10th and 11th at 7:30 p.m., as well as a 2:30 p.m. show on March 12th.
