3 'Dogs earn all-conference

Catcher Michael Wheeler, a junior from Lebanon. Former standout at Walters State Community College hit .327 on the season in 54 starts. He slugged 10 homers with 48 RBI and 15 doubles.


He was an all-state catcher at Lebanon's Friendship Christian School.

Outfielder Nick Jiles, a senior from Sacramento, CA. Jiles, a transfer from Sacramento State, Jiles hit .337 with 8 HR and 20 RBI. Jiles had 14 doubles, a tea-high four triples and 10 steals in 13 attempts.

Cumberland (36-19) is playing in the TranSouth Conference tournament this week in Millington at the USA Baseball Complex as a No. 4 seed.

ACADEMIC HONORS – Cumberland placed 13 players on the TranSouth Scholar-Athlete team, including: Matt Burton, Robert Clayton, Will Curry, Briggs Dixson, Chris Fanning, Nick Jiles, James Lilley, Brian Lucas, Cory Merrill, James Parker, Robert Post, Blake Simmons and Aaron Tant.
