HENDERSONVILLE -- Three Purple Tigers scored in double figures lifting Watertown High to a 65-61 victory over No. 1-seeded Goodpasture Saturday, Feb, 18 at Merrol Hyde Magnet School. With the win, WHS improved to 23-6 on the season and clinched the District 8-A tournament championship.

Coach Matt Bradshaw's squad will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 25 for a first round home game in the Region 4-A tournament.

The Purple Tigers got away from their fullcourt, trapping defense against Goodpasture and the tactic seemed to work as WHS built a 46-30 third quarter lead.

"We hadn't played half court man all season," Bradshaw said, "I think it threw them a little."

Goodpasture managed to tie the game at 56-all with about three minutes to play, but Vonte Bates slipped inside for a layup and Seth Price drilled a 3-pointer to put the game away.

Price knocked down four 3-pointers and finished with 21 points while Austin Lasater also sank four 3-pointers and tallied 18.

Ty Love scored 10 points and pulled in nine rebounds while Preston Tomlinson had eight, five assists and four rebounds. Bates finished with six points and a pair of key offensive rebounds.

WHS finished 9-of-12 at the line (75 percent) and 24-of-57 from the field (42 percent).

HENDERSONVILLE -- Knocking down key free throws in the closing seconds, Goodpasture slipped past Watertown 58-54 in the finals of the District 8-A tournament Friday night at Merrol Hyde magnet School.

With the loss, the Tigerettes fell to 13-15 on the season and will host a first round Region 4-A Friday, Feb. 24. First round winners move on to the regional semifinals Monday, Feb. 27 at Watertown.

WHS led 13-11 after one, but trailed 32-26 at intermission. Goodpasture pulled ahead 48-40 in the fourth before Watertown drew within one point on two different occasions in the late stages of the period.

Mya Gaines led the Tigerettes with 18 points and Maria Allocco chipped in with 15.
