Wilson Central plays Monday at 7 pm
HENDERSONVILLE -- Wilson Central will take a record of 21-12 into Monday night's third round play of the District 9-AAA baseball tournament at Drakes Creek Park.

The Wildcats sent host Hendersonville High to the losers' bracket on Saturday with an 8-3 spanking, leaving the Commandos and Portland to play a 4 p.m. loser-out game Monday afternoon with a crack at WCHS on the line.

Coach Anthony Ford's club broke open a 2-2 game with three in the top of the third and three more in the top of the seventh. All told, Wilson Central pounded out 13 hits against HHS.

Colten Morris led the way with a 3-for-4 effort, a double and two runs scored. Winning pitcher Kyle Hubbuch helped his own cause with a pair of hits and three RBI while Malone Smith added an RBI double.

Hubbuch went six and two-thirds for the win, scattering five hits with seven strikeouts.

Portland 5, Lebanon 2
HENDERSONVILLE -- Earlier Saturday at Drake Creek Park, Lebanon was eliminated from tournament play with a 5-2 loss at the hands of Portland.

Portland's Steven Martin kept the LHS bats in check for most of the day, limiting the Blue Devils to just six hits and one walk. The righthander was working on a shutout until Nolan Chambers drilled a two-run double in the top of the seventh inning.

Losing pitcher Dawson Hamilton gave up only two earned runs. He scattered six hits, struck out eight and walked two Panthers. Hamilton helped his own cause with a pair of singles.

The Blue Devils ended the season 11-18 under first year head coach Tony Long.
