Tennessee Department of Health officials announced recently that seventh grade students across the state will be required to have two additional immunization shots before returning to school this fall, as well as a new immunization certificate.Seventh-graders will be required to have the tetanus-diptheria-pertussis booster (Tdap) as well as a second dose of the varicella, or chicken pox, vaccine.Recommendations from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention were passed down to the Tennessee Health Department. The new immunization certificates must reflect the new shots even if children have an existing shot record. For more information, call your family doctor or contact the Wilson County Health Department at 444-5325.
