Ag. Hall of Famer Alvin McKee, 92

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 27 at the College Hills Church of Christ for Mr. Alvin McKee, 92, of Lebanon.

Owner and operator of the Wilson County Livestock Market for over 25 years and a member of the Wilson County Agricultural Hall of Fame, Mr. McKee died Tuesday, Dec. 20 at Lebanon's University Medical Center.

The Sale Barn, as the Livestock Market was known, was started in Lebanon in 1935 by the late businessman Jim Johnson. McKee got involved when a new building was built on West Main Street between the Kroger Shopping Center and Rocky Road in 1950.

In the late 1950s, McKee began his lifetime career as a livestock dealer. He served as a livestock buyer for many livestock trading businesses where he earned a national reputation as an exemplary cattleman.

He has a lifetime membership in the Tennessee Cattlemens Association and has won the Tennessee Cattlemens Distinguished Service Award, Charolais Distinguished Service Award and an Outstanding Effort to the Livestock Trading Industry from Edwards Feed.
McKee was recognized by the Tennessee General Assembly in 2002 and 2006 for his outstanding career and commitment to the state. He and his family business have supported many agricultural related programs including 4-H, the FFA Foundation, Ag. in the Classroom, Block & Bridle and the Wilson County Fair.

He is preceded in death by parents, Garvey Wilson & Loron Carson McKee; infant brother, John Carson McKee; sisters, Mary Frances Crain, & Margaret Elizabeth Kieffer.

Survived by wife of 67 years, Billie Crook McKee; children Margaret Elaine (Dick) Anderson, Wanda Beth McKee Bates, Alvin Carson (Jennifer Bundy) McKee and William Neal Bill (Kristina Oldfield) McKee.

Also surviving are grandchildren Richard Alvin Anderson, Christopher Rowland (Chrissy) Anderson, Victoria Loron (Shannon) Clark, Jared Cleveland Wilson Bates, Dana Michelle( Ricky) Hudson, Joseph Ryan (Rene) McKee, Rachel Lynne (Roger) Upton and Emily Gail (Billy) Anderson; 12 great grandchildren; brothers James Garvey (Wiebena Hackett) McKee and Franklin Delano( Faye Wall) McKee; brother-in-law Durbon Crain and sister-in-law Lassie Lee Crook Tarkington.

Eulogy and remarks by Celebrant, Jack McCall. Interment followed at the Bethlehem Cemetery.

Active pallbearers: Mark Holder, Tim Edwards, Charles Ricketts, Sherry Thorne, Don Shipper, Josh Bryan, B.J. Comstock and Mike Watkins. Honorary: H.M. Eslick, Bob Eakes, Dawayne Boyce, Milton Tuggle, Garry Maxey, Doris Rosson, Jim Crowther, Doris L. Barrett, Jim Gilmore and the gang at Four Winds Restaurant.

The family request contributions may be made in Mr. McKees memory to the Wilson County Agricultural Hall of Fame or Baddour Parkway Arboretum, located at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center, 925 East Baddour Parkway Suite 101, Lebanon, Tn 37087.

Lebanon's Partlow Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
