Alexandra Alford recently joined the UT-TSU Extension team in Wilson County as a summer intern.
Alford attends the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She is pursuing a Master's of Science in nutrition, concentrating in public health nutrition, and a Master's of Public Health, concentrating in community health education. She will also complete her dietetic internship with the University of Tennessee, following her coursework, in hopes of becoming a registered dietitian.
Alford plans to gain more experience working with the community and seeing the many programs that Extension has to offer. She is positive that the internship will be a valuable opportunity.
She will focus mainly on family and consumer sciences but will also see programming in 4-H youth development and agriculture. She will work with her intern supervisor, Shelly Barnes, on various projects, including a new program called Farmers Market Fresh. Feel free to stop by the Lebanon Farmers Market at 143 South Maple Street each Tuesday beginning on June 14 to welcome Alford to Wilson County. She will work with Agent Barnes to share healthy recipes with consumers and help promote buying fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers at the farmers market.
The Farmers Market Fresh program is funded by USDA's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and under an agreement with the State of Tennessee. To learn more, contact Barnes at (615) 444-9584 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
