3 'Dogs earn all-conference

Three Cumberland baseball players have been named first team all-conference by the TranSouth Conference. Honorees include:

Pitcher Lance McClain, a junior lefty out of Knoxville. The transfer from the University of Tennessee went 6-2 during the regular season, despite missing nearly a month due to an injury to his non-throwing hand.

McClain sported an ERA of 2.47, he struck out 71 batters in 58.1 innings while holding opposition hitters to a .216 batting average.

CU wins conference opener

MILLINGTON -- It wasn’t very pretty.

Cumberland mustered just enough Monday to down Martin Methodist 6-5 in the opening round of the TranSouth Conference tournament at the USA Baseball Complex.

Seeded No. 4, the Bulldogs (37-19) advance to a 4 p.m. game Tuesday to take on top-seeded Trevecca Nazarene (34-12) -- a 13-3 win Monday night over Bethel College.
