MURFREESBORO -- Tasha Miller's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth was the only offense Blackman needed as the Lady Blaze shutout Lebanon 1-0 in a rain-shortened game Friday night at Siegel in the opening round of the District 7AAA softball tournament.
The Lady Blaze move on to face the winner of Saturday morning's Oakland-Warren County game on Monday at 8 p.m. while the Devilettes (8-22) will take on the loser of Oakland-Warren County Monday at 4 p.m. in an elimination game.
Natalie Papini took the victory for Blackman (25-11-2), throwing a complete game and striking out nine while allowing four hits -- including a triple to Mallory Mason and singles by Hannah Brockette, Kenzie Fish and Kelsey Blackburn.
Anna Mullis took the loss for LHS -- allowing just six hits.
With the game locked in a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth, Papini led off with a double to left-centerfield. Miller, pinch-hitting for freshman Victoria Billiot lined a single to left field, scoring courtesy runner Samantha Damron with the game winner.
Papini retired the Devilettes in order in the top of the sixth, and the game was called due to lightning with Blackman batting in the bottom of the inning.
