LEBANON -- Three turnovers on Lebanon’s first four offensive snaps ruined an otherwise perfect night for football at the annual Kickoff Classic Thursday night, hosted by the Blue Devil Football Foundation.
Opportunistic Beech converted those mistakes into two early touchdowns and came away with a 27-6 win over LHS in two quarters of play.
Operating out of the Smokestack-I for most of the night, the Bucs played some of their best ball of the preseason.
"I don’t know where that just came from," said Beech head coach David Crabtree.
"We’ve struggled in some of our scrimmages. I hope we can build on this effort next week."
Lebanon was somewhat limited on offense due to holding several players out with minor injuries.
"We did get some things accomplished, even if the score was out of whack," said LHS coach Bobby Brown.
In a bright note, the ninth grade Blue Devils defeated Beech 14-6 as QB Patrick Maynard scored both touchdowns.
The varsity Blue Devils open the season Aug. 29 at home against Gallatin. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
