Wreck injures one, closes 109 for hours

From Post staff reports

A head-on collision early Friday morning left one person in critical condition and the roadway where it occurred blocked and closed for hours.

The accident happened about 2 a.m. on Highway 109 in Wilson County near the bridge that crosses the Cumberland River at the Sumner County line, said Laura McPherson, public information officer with the Tennessee Department of Safety.

The accident involved a 2005 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Charles Haney, 19, of Gallatin, and a tractor-trailer driven by James Downs, 50, also of Gallatin.

McPherson said the Impala was headed north on Hwy. 109 and the tractor-trailer was traveling south. Witnesses told state troopers that the Impala crossed the center line and "hit the tractor-trailer head-on."
