CU downs Georgetown 31-21

BULLDOGS STAND 1-1 ON SEASON

LEBANON -- Travis Carter registered 198 total yards of offense and two touchdowns and the Cumberland defense held Georgetown College to just 81 yards on the ground in a 31-21 Bulldog victory Saturday at Lindsey Donnell Stadium.

The win was the first for the Bulldogs over Georgetown since 1998 and just the third for Cumberland against the Tigers in the last 20 years.

"We were more physical today, in both the offense and defensive lines," said CU head coach Dewayne Alexander. We’ve got good skill players on the perimeter and we can throw the ball deep, but there are times you need to be able to line up and run the football.

Over 3,100 entries in Sherry's Run

JUILIO CERVANTES IS OVERALL WINNER

LEBANON -- Thirty-five year old Julio Cervantes clocked a time of 18:25 Saturday morning to win the sixth annual Sherry’s Run 5K. The overall women’s winner was 29-year old Katherine Kopinski who finished the course in 21:04.

Jeff Brown, 45, was the male masters winner at 20:33 while 40-year old Amy Breedlove was the female masters winner with a time of 23:30.

An all-time record of over 3,100 runners, walkers and supporters flocked to Sherry’s Run to support Wilson County’s largest grassroots cancer fundraising effort.
