Obituaries

LaVerta Farley, 82

LEBANON -- Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, April 9 at the Sellars Funeral Home on the Baddour Parkway for Mrs. Farley, 82, of Lebanon. The daughter of the late William Alvin and Lola Ethel Humble Wilson Sr., she died Apr. 6, 2010.

The family will be receiving friends at Sellars Funeral Home in Lebanon from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, and from 1 p.m. until service on Friday. The chapel service will be conducted by Pastor John Hunn and Reverend Barry Ellis. Interment follows in Wilson County Memorial Gardens.

Her legacy includes children James (Martha) Farley and Marie Farley; grandchildren Maggie F. (Erik) McDaniel, Angie F. (Peter) Keating, Rachel M. Farley, James Maxwell Carter and Jessica R. Carter.

Also surviving are brothers William Alvin (Marion) Wilson Jr. and Elton Wilson; brother-in-law Dr. Ray Farley; great-grandchildren Josiah McDaniel, Abbie McDaniel, Olivia McDaniel, Kiley McDaniel, Jedidiah McDaniel, Graham Keating, Martha Amelia Keating, Annabelle Lee Keating, Caleb James Lander and James Maxwell Carter Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Farley is preceded in death by husband James Lee Farley, brother-in-law Leonard (Marion) Ballard and sister-in-law Nannie (C.M.) Smith.  Active pallbearers: Josiah McDaniel, Erik McDaniel, Peter Keating and James Maxwell Carter.  Honorary Dr. D. Ray Farley.

Youth Track Club forms

MONDAY, APRIL 19 AT LHS -- The newly formed Lebanon Youth Track Club will hold its first information meeting and practice 5 p.m. Monday, April 19 at the Lebanon High School / Nokes-Lasater Field track. All youth in eighth grade or below are encouraged to come check out the fun.

The Lebanon Youth Track Club is a member of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and the cost to join the club is only $12, which includes an individual membership in the AAU. Matt Smart, the club director and coach, is excited to get the program off the ground.

“I’m encouraged to see the rising interest in running and fitness among our youth in the Lebanon community,” Smart said.  “This club will provide a great introduction to the sport of athletics and get kids prepared to run some fun track meets in the middle Tennessee area this spring and summer.”

Meets scheduled for this season include the Hershey Track and Field series held in Murfreesboro, the Tennessee Youth Invitational held at the University School in Nashville, AAU qualifier meets in Nashville and Knoxville, and the Nashville  Striders All-comers meets.
