Obituaries

Clovis Reece, 95
LEBANON -- Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 31 at the Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home for Mr. Reese, 95, of Lebanon.
Born January 23, 1915, in Jackson County, he died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at Cedars Health Care.
Retired from the Tennessee Woolen Mills, he was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, and the 40 Year Club of the Woolen Mill. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and was an avid sports fan.
Services were conducted by Brother Larry Bullard. Interment followed in the Wilson County Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include: daughters Annette (Billy) Driver and Brenda (Jack) LaFevor; granddaughter Lisa (Michael) Copeland; great-grandchildren Kristen (Matthew) Meridieth and Spencer King; sister Martha Robinson.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Dovie Martin Reece; siblings Roy and Dewey Reece; Zelma Bryant and Bonnie Robinson; parents John Herbert and Lassie Sircy Reece.
Pallbearers included: Spence King, Michael Copeland, Matthew Meridieth, Phil Bryant, Johnny Hodge, Bo and Jimmy Reed and Bobby Morse.
Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Danny "Bear" Miller, 60
LEBANON -- Memorial services were held Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 31, at the Sellars Funeral Home on the Baddour Parkway for Mr. Miller, 60, of Lebanon.
The son of the late Earl and Ruby Cato Miller, he died Aug. 27, 2010.
Services were conducted by Brother Danny Sellars.
Survivors include: brothers Andy (Helen) Miller, Billy Miller and Paul Miller; numerous nieces and nephews.
Sellars Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Edith Weaver Lea, 86
WATERTOWN -- Funeral services were held Monday morning, Aug. 30, at the Hunter Funeral Home for Mrs. Lea, 86, of the Norene Community.
A homemaker and a member of Spring Creek Presbyterian Church, she died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at her residence.
Services were conducted by the Rev. Billy Trice and Judy Beavers. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery.
Survivors include: children Philip Riley Lea and Mary Beth (Jeff) Buchanan -- both of Norene; brother Hugh Van Weaver of Madisonville, Ky.; aunt Lucille Weaver of Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Riley H. Lea; parents Blair and Mary Thompson Weaver; siblings Georgia Wooten, Reid and Vivian Weaver.
Nieces and nephews served as pallbearers.
Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Frank Restina, 52
MT. JULIET -- A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet for Mr. Restina, 52 of Mt. Juliet.
Born July 15, 1958 in Schenectady, NY, he died Aug. 26, 2010.
Mr. Restina graduated from Niskayuna High School in 1976 and attended Graham College in Boston, MA. He was a member and usher at Joy Church in Mt. Juliet.
Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Services will be conducted by with Pastor Dave Goldner.
Survivors include: wife Sara Restina; parents Frank and Delores Restina of Port St. Lucie, FL; children Karis, Kaycee and Scott -- all of Naples, FL; brother Paul Restina of Glen Allen, VA; and granddaughter Kenzlee.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made at any First Tennessee Bank to the benefit account of Frank Restina.

Gerald Edward Wiser, 62
LEBANON -- Funeral services have been scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2 at the Partlow Funeral Chapel for Mr. Wiser, 62, of Lebanon.
A member of the Church of Christ and formerly employed with Georgia Power Nuclear Plant, he died Monday evening, Aug. 30, 2010 at the Riverview Regional Medical Center in Carthage.
He was a former employee of M & M Construction Co. and the Computer Outlet.
Visitation will be held 5-8 Wednesday and Thursday 9 a.m. until funeral services at the Partlow Funeral Chapel.
Services will be conducted by Brother Gary Drennon and Brother Paul Stovall.
Survivors include: father Willard Edward Wiser of Shelbyville; wife Virginia “Ginger” Wiser of Lebanon; daughters Tish Johnson of Lebanon and Christie Wiser of Nashville; siblings Larry Doyle (Becky) Wiser and Sylvia Katherine Thompson -- both of Shelbyville; grandson Eli Johnson of Lebanon.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Wiser.
Pallbearers: Boone Swain, Jim Ashby, Randy West, Wayne Simmons, Jim Duckworth and Jim Tomlinson.

Gladys Carter Rogers, 85
LEBANON -- Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 31, at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home for Mrs. Rogers, 85, of Lebanon.
She died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010 at her residence.
Born in Sumner County to the late Cordell and Minnie Branham Carter, Mrs. Rogers worked at the Lebanon Garment Factory for 35 years and was a member of Adams Avenue Church of Christ.
Services were conducted by Brother Wayne Smith. Interment followed at Wilson County Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include: children Jerry (Susan) Moss of Gallatin; Kenneth (Carolyn) Moss, Houston (Donneita) Rogers and James (Trudy) Moss -- all of Lebanon; siblings Stella (Glenn) Johnson, Thurman (Margie) Carter, and Cordell Carter Jr.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husband, Sam Rogers and brother Alton Carter.

Glenice Wooten Stallings, 102
GORDONSVILLE -- Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Home for Mrs. Stallings, 102, of the Hickman Community.
Mrs. Stallings died Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at Smith County Health Care Center in Carthage following an extended illness.
She was a 1925 graduate of Gordonsville High School and attended Middle Tennessee State Teachers College (MTSU) in Murfreesboro.
Mrs. Stallings was a member of the Cedar Point United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time.
Services will be conducted by Brother Jerry Wallace, Brother Stephen and Brother Donald Elmore. Interment will be in Gordonsville Cemetery.
Survivors include: children Marie (Robert D.) Agee of Lebanon, Mary Sue Stallings and Charles Albert Stallings -- both of Hickman; daughter-in-law Judy Nixon Stallings of Louisville, Ky.; grandchildren David (Myra) Agee of Nashville, Denise (Jim) Gibson of Lebanon, Miriam (Bob) Dobbins of Hillsborough, N.C., Karen (David) Ditsch of Jackson, Ky., and Rebecca (Dennis) Tucker of Leithfield, Ky.; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces Etheleen Gass, Ruth Hackett, Margaret Wooten, Joyce Jackson and Jewell Kramer and nephews Thayer Washer and James Wooten.
Mrs. Stallings was preceded in death by her husband Mitchell Moore Stallings; son Arnold Moore Stallings; parents Laura Virginia Gibbs and Thomas King Wooten and brothers Elmer, Cleon, Harry and Leslie Wooten.

WATERTOWN -- Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Aug. 30, at Hunter Funeral Home for Mrs. Williams, 65, of Watertown.
A homemaker and a member of the Baptist church, she died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at University Medical Center.
Services were conducted by the Rev. Carl Price. Interment followed in Wilson Coounty Memorial Park.
Survivors include: husband Bob Williams of Watertown; daughter Vickie Hill of Murfreesboro; granddaughter Brandy Hill of Murfreesboro; great-granddaughter Victoria Lester; sister Glenda (Barry) Snyder of Lebanon; brother Robert (Sherry) Murphy of Hartsville; nieces and nephews; Bob's brothers and their wives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam Robert and Daisy Hale Murphy; sisters, Betty Lou Murphy and Judy Rose Murphy.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.

Harry Morgan Evans Jr., 61
MT. JULIET -- Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Aug. 29, at Bond Memorial Chapel for Mr. Evans, 61, of Mt. Juliet.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Vietnam, he died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010.
Services were conducted by Rev. J. Howard Mettee. Interment with military honors was private.
Survivors include his wife Joan Rose "Jody" Evans; daughters Christina Beth "Christy" (Matt) Roe; Kimberly Virginia "Kimi" Evans and Katie Alston Jensen; an unborn grandchild expected to be born in March 2010.
He preceded in death by parents Harry Morgan Evans Sr. and Elizabeth Maranda Evans and his daughter, Jennifer Joan Evans.
Bond Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Infant Jason Wayne Nelson
WATERTOWN -- Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Aug. 29, at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown for infant Jason Wayne Nelson.
Son of Amber Leigh Matney and Ryan Nelson of Castalian Springs, he died Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at his residence at the age of one month and 23 days.
Services were conducted by Brother Ben Fuston. Interment was in Eastern Gate Cemetery.
In addition to his parents, survivors include: sister Ayden Nelson of Castalian Springs; grandmothers Darlene Matney, Donna Etheridge Mary Catherine Nelson; aunts and uncles Jackie (James) Vaden of Watertown; Connie (Matt) Canham of Lebanon; William and Wesley Matney of Castalian Springs; Michael (Meredith) Matney of Lebanon; Brian Boles and Patricia Boles, both of Nashville; Jason Nelson of Fairview; cousins, Brooke and James Vaden, Kayleigh Canham, and Austin and Jordan Matney; great-grandparents, Skip and Mary Boles of Nashville.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Mary and Rudolph Pickering; grandfather, Wayne Matney, and uncle, Michael Pickering.
Pallbearers were Jason Nelson and James Vaden.

MT. JULIET -- Graveside services were held Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 31, at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens for Mrs. Denney, 89, formerly of Mt. Juliet.
She died Friday, Aug. 27, 2010 at her Jonesboro, GA residence.
Survivors include: nephews, Ray (Mildred) White of Jonesboro, Buford (Mattie) White of Statesboro, Ga., Earnest White of Cumming, Ga., John (Kim) White of Snellville, Ga.; step-daughter, Christine (Lonnie) Carter and other family members.

Vicki Lynn Gale, 55
LEBANON -- A celebration of life will be held 7 p.m. Thursday Sept. 2 in the Partlow Funeral Chapel for Mrs. Gale, 55, of Lebanon.
She passed away on Friday Aug 27, 2010, at her residence.
Born May 5, 1955 in Long Beach, CA to Ervin and Katie McBride, Mrs. Gale was a devoted Christian and a longtime cafeteria manager at Mt. Juliet Middle School.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Partlow Chapel.
Services will be conducted by Brother Don McElroy. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Norene, Friday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m.
Survivors include: parents, husband Daniel Gale of Lebanon; children Eric Pomeroy of Michigan and Jennifer (Matthew) Jones of Mississippi; siblings Brian McBride and Sharon (Don) Butler -- both of California; numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family members.
Mrs. Gale is preceded in death by her unborn grandchild, Noah Matthew Jones.

Virginia Watkins, 86
LEBANON -- A private graveside funeral service was held recently for Mrs. Watkins, 86, of Lebanon. The widow of the late Harry Watkins, Sr., she died August 21, 2010
Survivors include: children Vevlyne (Tom) Webb, Harry (Leslyne) Watkins Jr., Loretta Chalmers, Dorothy (Lester) McClain, Danny (Alma) Watkins, Harriet (Pete) Banks, Levi (Linda) Watkins, Vincent (MariBell) Watkins and David (Temetria) Watkins.
She is also survived by her best friend and sister-in-law Virgina Edmonson, 22 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Watkins was preceded in death by parents Sally and Jess Gilliam and daughter Shirley Watkins.

Radio show debuts Wednesday

LEBANON -- The Cumberland’s Football Coaches Show presented by The Music City Star with host Tommy Bryan and head coach Dewayne Alexander begins Wednesday night at 6:30 with the show broadcasting this season from the new Papa John’s in the Phillips Student Center on the CU campus.

Fans and supporters are invited to attend. The show may be heard on 98.9 FM WANT locally and at  mms://realaudio.cumberland.edu/CU  on the web.

The Papa John’s is located in the old K Room in the Phillips Student Center.

Two area high school coaches will also join the show that runs from 6:30-7:30 p.m. from September 1 through November 10 this season.  Lebanon High coach Bobby Brown and Wilson Central head man Brad Dedman will guest on Wednesday's show.
