Obituaries

Catherine Hawkins Nokes, 98

LEBANON -- Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 at the First Baptist Church for Mrs. Nokes, 98, of Lebanon.
Born Feb. 24, 1912, in Davidson County, she passed away Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at the Smith County Health Care in Carthage.
Mrs. Nokes was the daughter of the late Albert Lemuel and Ella Baddacour Hawkins.
She had been a member of the First Baptist Church since 1932 where she was a dedicated volunteer.  She was a homemaker and had worked at Cowan’s Department Store, Lux Clock, and retired from the cafeteria at Highland Heights Elementary School. She also volunteered at University Medical Center.
Visitation Friday after 12 Noon at the First Baptist Church.
Services will be conducted by Rev. Don McElroy, Dr. Ray Cleek and Rev. Tom Henry. Interment will follow at the Wilson County Memorial Gardens. 
Survivors include: children Loyd Thomas (Betty) Nokes Jr. of Murfreesboro and Shirley (Jacob L.) Christiansen of Mt. Juliet.
Also surviving are grandchildren Eric (Paula) Nokes, Amanda (Dwain) VanVactor, Ethan (Shani) Nokes, Andrea Nokes Hale and Michael Shawn Christiansen; and great grandchildren Andrew (Allison) Nokes, Rachel Nokes, William Daxton Hale, Elijah Nokes and Josiah Nokes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Thomas Nokes Sr. on December 25, 1974; and sisters Margaret Englert, Adrienne Karsch and Louise Thoman.
Active pallbearers:  Eric Nokes, Shawn Christiansen, Dwain VanVactor, Ethan Nokes, Andrew Nokes, B. J. Reich, Kenny Reich, Wayne Hall and Bobby Johnson. Honorary: Kenneth Hughes, Charles Huddleston, Melvin Sloan, Val Vastola, Steve Vastola, Glenn Chambers, Wayne Goad, Donnie Hamilton, Steve Brown and the Ruth Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Library.

Infant Jayden Christian Lee Cheney
LEBANON -- Infant Jayden Cheney, 9 days old, passed away Sept. 19, 2010.
The chapel service, conducted by Brother Danny Sellars, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 at the Sellars Funeral Home, W. Baddour Parkway.
Visitation at the funeral home is for one hour prior to the service. 
Survivors include: parents William Cheney and Brandi Troutt; grandparents Tommy and Shellie Potts, Steve Smith and Susan Smith; aunts and uncles: Tiffani Troutt, Joseph (Brandy) Chaney, Christopher Cheney, and Johnathan (Amber) Simmons; along with several nieces.

Jerry Allgood, 70
NASHVILLE -- Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24 at the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in the Peagram Community for Mr. Allgood, 70, of Lebanom.
A veteran of the US Army, having served with the 101st Airborne and the 10th Special Forces, de died Sept. 22, 2010.
Mr. Allgood was president of the Rock Fish Association and enjoyed fishing, gardening, farming and horses.
Services will be conducted by Brother Roger Thaxton.
Survivors include: daughter Tina Stafford; son David (Tanda) Allgood and sisters Polly Tidwell and Sue (Glen) Sanders.
Also surviving are grandchildren Caleb Wayne Stafford, Joshua Allgood, Jonathon Allgood and Junàuh Allgood; and great-grandchildren Hunter David Allgood, Elijah Brent Allgood and Ayden Chase Allgood.
Mr. Allgood was preceded in death by parents, Emmett & Vera May Allgood; and numerous brothers & sisters.

Ronald Edward Walton, 63
NASHVILLE -- Graveside services with military honors will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 at Woodlawn Memorial Park for Mr. Walton, 63, of Mt. Juliet.
A veteran of the US Air Force and an Eagle Scout, he died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010
Mr. Walton was a member of the First Baptist Church of Donelson and a lifetime member of the Odd Fellows Post #91.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at Bond Memorial Chapel, N. Mt. Juliet Road and Weston Drive, Mt. Juliet.
Services will be conducted by Rev. W.L. Baker.
He is survived by his brother Tom Walton.
Mr. Walton is preceded in death by his parents the late, O.E. “Butch” and Dimple Story Walton. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bill Walton.
Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301 , Cincinnati , OH 45250-0301.
Bond Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Vestil Clay York, 89
OLD HICKORY -- Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23 at the Hermitage Funeral Home for Mr. York, 89, of Lebanon.
Mr. York passed away Sept. 20, 2010. Services were conducted by Pastor Paul Shields. Interment followed at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include wife Pauline York; daughter Sandy Harbrecht; sons Jimmy (Linda) York, Harold (Phyllis) York; step-son Randy (Brenda) Bush; nine grandchildren 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He is preceded in death by wife Evelyn Rader York; father Rev. J. G. York; mother Lillie Walton York; brothers Ray York, Willard York and Harel York; son-in-law Dr. Cary Harbrecht.
Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lebanon Senior Citizens on Coles Ferry Pike.
Hermitage Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
