Iven W. Allen, 84
MT. JULIET -- Funeral services were held Monday morning, Sept. 27 at Bond Memorial Chapel for Mr. Allen, 84, of Old Hickory.
Retired from the VA Hospital in Memphis, he died Friday, Sept. 24, 2010.
Mr. Allen was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church and a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII. He worked security at Opryland for 12 years.
He was a volunteer fireman and a volunteer at Nashville International Airport as a Flying Ace for five years. A Scout Master, he was a member of the Donelson Senior Citizens Center and a member of the Music City Weekend Campers.
Mr. Allen camped in 49 states in the United States and visited all 50 states. He loved camping, hiking, bowling and square dancing.
Entombment with military honors was at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include: wife Betty Hilton Allen (whom he married in 1948) of Old Hickory, son Leslie Allen of Old Hickory and daughter Pam Allen of Mt. Juliet. Also surviving: granddaughter Bethany Allen; sister Donna Gage of Decatur, IN as well as several nieces and nephews.
The Music City Weekend Campers served as pallbearers.
Mr. Allen was preceded in death by parents Iven G. and Gertha Elizabeth Miller Allen; siblings Jack V. Allen, Tom Allen and Betty Fegley.

Leila Owen Griffin, 81
LEBANON -- Leila Griffin, of Cathage, passed away on September 24, 2010 at age 81.
Born and raised in Lebanon, she was retired from the Texas Boot Company.
The chapel was held Tuesday evening, Sept. 28, 2010, conducted by Brother Danny Sellars at the Sellars Funeral Home.
Survivors include sons: Jerry (Linda) Hall, Richard Hall and Charles Richard “Crickett” (Debbie) Griffin; brothers Henry Smith, Bobby Joe Smith, J.W. Smith and John Smith; sisters Lois Rich, Dorothy Smith and Diane Smith.
Also surviving are grandchildren Gerald Hall, Randy Hall, Brandy (Tony) Brawn, Lee Hall, Pam (Kent) Cortez, Sandy Griffin, Charles Cortez, Desiray Cortez, Rocky Griffin, Brad Hall and Terrie Hall.
Grandchildren served as honorary pallbearers.
She is preceded in death by parents Henry and Sadie Frances McIntire Smith and sister Annie Mae Lahew.

Patricia Barrus, 82
LEBANON -- Patricia Barrus passed away on Friday, Sept. 24, 2010 at age 82.
She was a member of the LDS Church in Lebanon.
A chapel service was conducted by Bishop Jared Triskill Tuesday evening, Sept. 28.
Interment in The Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman, CA.
Survivors include: daughters Louise (Dan) Keefe and Christie (Bruce) Holmgren; sons Scott Barrus, Kim (Dana) Barrus, and Lyn (Eileen) Barrus.
Also surviving are grandchildren Jason (Michelle) Keefe, Erin Keefe, Chizuko Chavez, and Chiminh Chavez; great-grandchildren Indigo Midnight, Phoenix, Minnie, Ashley and Savannah; brother Barry (Jane) Williamson; and step-mother Loveta Balch.
Mrs. Barrus is is preceded in death by husband Donald Martin Barrus, parents B.G. and Laura Lee Gray Williamson, and brother Eugene Williamson.
Sellars Funeral Home, 313 W. Baddour Pkwy, Lebanon, was in charge of arrangements.
Ralph Owens, 70
LEBANON -- Mr. Owens died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010 at Cedars Health Care Nursing Facility at the age of 70.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Sept. 30 between the hours of 12 Noon and 8 p.m. at the Wilson County Funeral Home, 618 S. Maple Street.
There will be no funeral service. Mr. Owens is to be cremated.
Survivors include: his loving wife Katherine Owens; children Rhonda Hubner, Debbie Mangino and Ralph (Cindy) Owens. Also surviving are two sisters, a brother, eight grandchildren and four great, grandchildren.

Sadie Bratcher Martin, 76
WATERTOWN -- Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Sept. 27 at Hunter Funeral Home for Mrs. Martin, 76, of Watertown.
She died Friday, Sept. 24, 2010 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. Mrs. Martin was a former cashier at Green Hills Market.
Services were conducted by the Rev. Don Mathis. Interment was at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include: children Herbert (Rhonda) Bratcher of Old Hickory, Donald Bratcher of Watertown and Barbara Bratcher of Athens, Ala.; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Ray Martin; father Willie J. Smith; mother and stepfather Nova and Grady Campbell; brother Willie J. Smith Jr.
Friends and family served as pallbearers.

Walter Howard Johnson, 87
LEBANON -- Funeral services were held Monday morning, Sept. 27, at the Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home for Mr. Johnson, 87, of Lebanon.
A native of Wilson County and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he died Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, at his residence.
Born August 5, 1923 to the late James William Johnson and Effie Lee Rogers Johnson, he was a barber from 1951-1965 and then worked at TRW Ross Gear 20 years, retiring in 1985.
Mr. Johnson was a member and song leader of the Hickory Ridge Church of Christ.
In the Navy, was a Seaman First Class, serving in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS John R. Craig.
Services were conducted by Brother Ron Hackney and Brother Mike Lamb. Interment followed in the Wilson County Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include: his wife Georgia Martin Johnson; daughters Pamelia Young, Penny (John) Carroll and Patricia "Trish" (Robert) Sobieszczyk; grandchildren Stephanie Young, Howard Joseph Sobieszczyk and Hanley Turner Sobieszczyk.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by brothers: Noel, Harvey, Julian and Curry Lee Johnson.
Active pallbearers: Johnny Carroll, Neal Oakley, Terry Alexander, Jim Andrews, James Bardon, Jason Reese, Hanley and Howard Sobieszczyk. Honorary: Bobby Sobieszczyk, Robert Speck, Robert Rogers, Robert Sobieszczyk, Melvin Howard, James Cooper, Jerre Grandstaff, Clayton Fuqua, Hayden King and Don Van Pietersom.
