Obituaries

Brian Joseph Sweeney Jr., 50
WATERTOWN -- Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Nov. 8 at the Hunter Funeral Home for Mr. Sweeney, 50, of Watertown.
Employed in airport security, he died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
Born in August, 1960 in New Orleans, La., he was a 1978 graduate of Father Ryan High School and Belmont University.
Interment was at Hearn Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include: parents Brian Joseph Sweeney Sr. and Mary Kay Sweeney of Brentwood; siblings Kathleen (Johnny) Freeman and Sean (Joan) Sweeney -- all of Murfreesboro; Kevin Sweeney of Brentwood and Bill (Jena) Sweeney of Smyrna. Also surviving are eight nephews and four nieces.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and May Sweeney and Bernard and Alice McSharry.

Darrell E. Kouns, 50
OLD HICKORY -- Funeral services were held Saturday morning, Nov. 6 at the Hermitage Funeral Home for Mr. Kouns, 50, of Mt. Juliet.
A veteran, he died Nov. 4, 2010.
Services were conducted by Brother Jeff Whittner. A military burial followed at the Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include: parents David and Janet Kouns; wife Carol Kouns; daughters Brandi Johnson (Steve), Sonya Parries (Will) and Allie Kouns.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren; siblings David Kouns (Arline), Anita Ruja (Jim) and Carolyn O'Meara (Kevin).
Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 3300 East Sunrise Drive, Tucson, AZ 85718.

Doris J. Martin, 79
MT. JULIET -- Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10 at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet for Mrs. Martin, 79, of Mt. Juliet.
She died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010 at Nashville's Vanderbilt Medical Center.
Mrs. Martin was a Methodist and worked as a secretary with the First United Methodist Church in Donelson, as well as with the State of Tennessee in the accounting department.
Visitation Wednesday from 12 noon until time of service.
Services will be conducted by Brother Danny Sellars. Interment follows at the Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include: children Rhee (Sam Bates) Martin and Dennis Martin; grandchildren Ryan G. Crook, Brandon (Kim) Martin and Brittany (Matthew) Maltese.
Also surviving are great-grandchildren Jackub G. Crook, Christian Martin, Brayden Maltese and Kylee Martin; brothers Ronnie (Connie) Lambert, Jim (Maxine) Lambert, and Doyle (Opal) Lambert; as well as nieces and nephews from Missouri.
She is preceded in death by husband Billy C. Martin; and parents, Ernest and Lora Rabine Lambert.
Pallbearers: Dennis Martin, Ryan Crook, Sam Bates, Shane Bratton, Brandon Martin and Matthew Malteses.

Harrie 'Nick' Nichols, 79
LEBANON -- Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 at Wilson County Funeral Home on South Maple Street for Mr. Nichols, 79, of Lebanon.
Known as "Nick" to his family and friends, he died Monday, Nov. 8, 2010 at his residence.
A native of Pittsburgh, PA., he lived in Lebanon for the last 31 years.
He was the son of the late Harrie Sr. and Anna Mae Lucas Nichols, Mr. Nichols was a veteran, having served in the US Navy for three years and with the US Army for seven years as a member of the 101st Airborne Screamin' Eagles.
For the last several years of his working life, he was worked at Cedar Forest Market.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and 10 a.m. until the service Thursday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Wilson County Memorial Park.
Survivors include: children John (Brenda) Nichols, Gregory Nichols, Kimberly Nichols, Penny Nichols and Bonnie (Kevin) Oliver; grandchildren Jason, Jessica, Josh, Chasity, Courtney, Lucas, Brooke and Lucas; great-grandchildren Austin and Lily; sister, Ellen Jane Donnelly; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by wife of 45 years, Betty Jane Harris Nichols; parents and sister Ann Fichera.
Pallbearers: John Nichols, Josh Reese, Jason Mendez, Kevin and Luke Oliver and Tommy Harris.

Kitty Elizabeth McMinn, 93
WATERTOWN -- Funeral services are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 10 at Hunter Funeral Home for Mrs. McMinn, 93, of Lebanon and formerly of Watertown.
Retired from Lebanon Garment Company after 45 years of service, she died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010 at Quality Care Health Center in Lebanon.
She attended Lebanon First United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Services will be conducted by Rev. David Hesson. Interment will be in Greenvale Cemetery.
Survivors include: sister Hilda McMinn of Lebanon; sister-in-law Laura McMinn; nieces Valorie (Charles) Bond and Linda (Charles) Miller -- both of Lebanon; great-niece Lauren (Justin) Lee of Brush Creek; and great-nephews Billy Huff and Robert Bond -- both of Lebanon.
She was preceded in death by parents, Julian and Ona Jennings McMinn; siblings Julia Marie McMinn  and Robert Louis McMinn.
Pallbearers: Charles and Robert Bond, Charles Miller, Billy Huff, Justin Lee and John Hailey.

Larry Ray Darnell, 50
LEBANON -- Larry Darnell, 50, of Mt. Juliet, passed away on Nov. 8, 2010.
A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at Sellars Funeral Home on the Baddour Parkway.
The family will be receiving friends from 5 p.m. until the service on Thursday.
Services will be conducted by Brother Judd Sellars.
Survivors include wife of 33 years Joyce Hudson Darnell; sons Gordon (Angela) Darnell and Brandon Ray Darnell; sister Pam (Ed) Burris; grandchildren Zim Zachary Darnell, Emily Rose Darnell and Damien Darnell; as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by parents Gordon Ray and Shirley Faye Bishop Darnell.

Pauline Hagar Kelley Wells, 96
MT. JULIET – Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 9 at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet for Ms. Wells, 96, of Hermitage.
Retired from the Baptist Sunday School Board, she died Friday, Nov. 5, 2010 at Medical Center of Manchester.
Ms. Wells was the oldest member of New Hope Baptist Church -- a member for 85 years, as well as a longtime member of Mt. Juliet Senior Citizens Center and Gladeville's "Going Like 60" Group.
Services were conducted by Pastor Raymond Vogtner. Interment followed at the Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include: daughter Lillian Kelley Bynum of Tullahoma; grandchildren Linda (Alex) Hohne, Kenneth (Marina) Bynum and Stephen (Karina) Bynum; great-grandchildren Elizabeth (William), Anson, April, Erica, Adam, Kathryn A., David, Laura, Kathryn K., Johanna, Andrew, Filip, Walter, Margaret, Marie and Valerie; step-daughter Bonnie Getz; step-daughter-in-law Jean Wells; sisters Hilda Barnes, Frances Bruce, Louise (Robert) Davis, and Ruth Boner; brothers William Hagar, Houston (Peggy) Hagar and John (Mary) Hagar; and brother-in-law Bill Hall.
She was preceded in death by parents Emmett and Nova Jenkins Hagar; husbands Obie Kelley and Hollis Wells; sisters Lillian Hagar and Lucille Hall; and brothers Ewell Hagar and Henderson Hagar.

Peggie Reed Dill, 59
LEBANON -- Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 9, at the College Hills Church of Christ for Mrs. Dill, 59, of Lebanon.
A veteran educator as well as beloved mother, wife and friends, she died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at her home following an extended illness.
Born April 21, 1951 in Wilson County, she was the daughter of the late James Robert and Edna Trice Reed.
Mrs. Dill earned a bachelors degree in home economics from MTSU and received her masters degree in food and nutrition from UT-Knoxville, in addition to her teaching certificate.
She spent 30 years teaching in Wilson County and the Lebanon Special School District.
A member of the College Hills Church of Christ, she was involved in various community activities, and enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking and spending time with her family.
Services were conducted by Dr. Larry Locke and Rev. David Hesson.
Interment was at the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include: her husband of 33 years Ken Dill; children Anne (Alan) Wood of Clarksville; Sarah (Robert) Blanshan of Rochester, MN; and Taylor Dill of Lebanon; siblings Elizabeth (Robert) Smith of Greenville, KY; James (Penny) Reed and Billy Earl (Glenda) Reed -- of Lebanon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Bobby Jane (Ronald) Nokes.
Pallbearers:  Joe Nokes, Brad Hall. Charles Mothershed, Alan Reed, Steve Daniel and Billy Parham.
Honorary: faculty and staff of Coles Ferry Elementary School.
Memorials may be made to the Coles Ferry Elementary School.

Susan 'Diane' North, 56
LEBANON -- Diane North passed away on Nov. 4, 2010 at age 56.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13 at the Sellars Funeral Home on the Baddour Parkway.
Born June 23, 1954 in Lebanon, Ms. North was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was a longtime employee of University Medical Center.
Visitation with the family will be from 9 a.m. until service.
Services will be conducted by Brother Kevin Medlin and Brother Anthony Maxwell.
Survivors include: daughters Brianna (Bob) Jackson and Megan (Travis) Wheeler; grandson Gabriel Jackson; mother and step-father Dorothy and Grady Litchford; sister Bobbie (Joel) Speck; brother Tony (Eleanor) Roberts; cousin, caregiver, and special friend Chris (Luther) Kelley; and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She is preceded in death by father Charles Foster “Bobby” Roberts, brother Teddy Doyle Roberts, maternal grandparents Bertha Collins Parks and Elmer Parks Sr., paternal grandparents Nola Carr Roberts and Dow Roberts.

William Frank Lester
MT. JULIET -- Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon, Nov. 8 at Bond Memorial Chapel for Mr. Lester of Mt. Juliet.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, he died Friday, Nov. 5, 2010.
Services were conducted by Brother Gary Vacca. Interment with military honors followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Survivors include: wife Julie Lester and children Billy (Sharon) Lester, Robert (Glenda) Lester, Don (Rebecca) Lester, Kevin (Sandy) Lester, Sheila (Dave) Mackie, Eileen (Bill) Lydick and Elizabeth Lester.
Also surviving is sister Ova Mae Bennett; 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will serve as active pallbearers.
He was preceded in death parents Thomas and Elizabeth Boles Lester; sons David Lester and Howard Lester and brother Robert Howard Lester.

William Richards Cash, 75
MT. JULIET -- A private memorial service will be held at a later date for Mr. Cash, 75, of Mt. Juliet.
Known as "Bill" to his friends and family, he died Nov. 4, 2010.
A former systems analyst for GTE and a National Certified Swim Official, he was the son of the late Helen Richards Cash and Wilbur J. Cash.
Mr. Cash received undergraduate degrees from, loved and strongly supported -- the University of Tampa and the University of Illinois.
Survivors include: his wife of over 50 years Ruth Phelps Cash and son Robert R. (Helene) Cash.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cash is preceded in death by brother Robert F. Cash.

WATERTOWN -- Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 9, at Hunter Funeral Home for Mrs. Bennett, 57, of Lebanon.
A special education assistant, she died Friday, Nov. 5, 2010 at her residence.
Interment was in the Hearn Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include: daughters Jennifer Lee (Grady) Lamb of Christiana and Wendy Webb Smith of Murfreesboro; grandchildren Ashley Lee Lunn, Christina Lee Webb, Briana Lunn, Brittany Ann Smith, Brook Gipson and Cody Miquel Mendoza; brothers Kent Johnson of Smyrna and Doug Johnson of Memphis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Johnson and Christine Benderman Johnson.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
