LEBANON -- Cumberland University's Michael Sweat has been named the TranSouth Conference's weekly Player of the Week for the week ending January 16.
Sweat, a 6-foot-7 junior forward from Gallatin, led the Bulldogs to a 2-0 week.
The Columbia State transfer averaged 19 points and five rebounds in his first two starts for the Bulldogs. He shot 12-20 (60%) from the field, hit 6-11 (54%) from three-point range, and hit all eight of his free throw attempts.
His top game came in 75-59 win over Trevecca Saturday, Jan. 15 when he scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Sweat has reached double figures in scoring in five of the last six games.
Cumberland is now 7-7 on the season and are tied for second in the TranSouth at 3-1.
The Bulldogs of Coach Lonnie Thompson return to action tonight as they host Bethel College in another TranSouth matchup.
