Man charged in synthetic drug sale, possessing gambling equipment

From Post staff reports

Information and evidence obtained during undercover visits to local convenience stores checking on the reported sale of synthetic drugs led to the arrest of one stores employee.

Lebanon Police Departments Narcotics Unit utilized a confidential informant to visit 14 different convenience stores on Jan. 31 after receiving complaints regarding the stores selling synthetic drugs such as 7H from under the counter. This drug and other related drugs have been deemed illegal in the State of Tennessee.

The CI entered the stores to try and purchase the synthetic drug. Investigators with the LPDs Narcotics Unit were able to purchase one pack of 7H Hydro Botanical Potpourri at the Tobacco Outlet at 735 North Cumberland Street, said Chief Scott Bowen.

Using the information they obtained, officers on Feb. 1 served a search warrant on Discount Tobacco Outlet where they reportedly seized one gaming machine/gambling device, 10 packages of synthetic cannabis/7H and more than $4,000 in cash.

The store employee, Basam Farag Hanna, 31, of Nashville, was arrested and charged with the sale of illegal synthetic drugs and possession of gambling equipment. Farag is to appear in General Sessions Court on April 17.
