Update voter registration soon

Early voting begins on Friday, July 13, less than two months away.

The deadline for registering to vote for the Aug. 2 County General, State and Federal Primary is Tuesday, July 3, which is 30 days before Wilson Countys next election.

This is a good time to do some housekeeping on your voter registration -- or to get registered if you are not -- before it is time to vote or it is too late to register, said Phillip Warren, Wilson County administrator of elections.

Voters know to contact the Election Commission if they change their address or their name. But, updating their signature may not be something voters have thought about. It is important to have your current signature on your registration card. The signature on your absentee ballot or on a petition must match the signature on your voter registration form, Warren said.

Local athletes compete in TSSAA track sectionals at Brentwood High

Athletes from both Lebanon High and Mt. Juliet will be competing Wednesday and Thursday in the TSSAA sectional meet at Brentwood High. Field events and the 3200 meters are Wednesday. Running finals are set for Thursday.

Lebanon High's Shaq Cragwall qualified for the sectional in three events -- high jump, long jump and triple jump over the weekend at the subsectional at Brentwood High.

Cragwall set a new school record in winning the triple jump at 46'3 1/4". He tied for first in the high jump at 6'4" and finished fourth in the long jump at 21'3 1/4".

REGION 4A -- Watertown downs Clay Co. 7-6

Watertown 7, Clay Co. 6
CELINA -- Down 6-1 after four innings, Watertown manufactured a thrilling 7-6 victory over Clay County in Tuesday's Region 4A semifinal game.

Clay County helped matters by walking seven WHS hitters and committing four errors.

Tiffany Tomlinson lifted a sacrifice fly to score Mallory Josey with the eventual game-winner in the top of the seventh inning. Jamie Reed survived an 11-hit barrage to get the pitching decision for the Tigerettes. Leanna Warren and Jordan Brewington had Watertown's only two hits.

WHS (17-14) will play at Friendship Christian tonight at 6 p.m. in the Region 4A championship game. Both teams will advance to Friday's TSSAA sectional -- one win away from a berth in the Spring Fling.

REGION 5AAA -- Mt. Juliet teams reach finals

Mt. Juliets baseball and softball teams find themselves just one win away from return appearances in the TSSAA Spring Fling -- thanks to wins Monday in their respective Region 5AAA semifinal games.

The Golden Bears (36-4) pounded out 15 hits and thumped visiting Clarksville Northwest 12-2. Mt. Juliet will play at Rossview Wednesday for the region title.

Rossview (27-7) needed 10 innings to defeat Station Camp in Tuesday's 5AAA semifinal contest.

MJHS and Rossview are both assured of a berth in Fridays TSSAA sectional.

The Lady Bears went on the road and defeated Clarksville High 4-1 -- improving to 33-13-1 overall. Coach Brad Rowletts team will play at Beech Wednesday in the Region 5AAA championship game.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Shackle Island. Beech reached the region finals with an 8-0 win over Clarksville Northeast.

Win or lose Wednesday, Mt. Juliet will play in a TSSAA sectional game Friday with the winner earning a spot in the Spring Fling.
