James P. Stewart, 90

Funeral services will be held at a later date for World War II veteran Mr. James P. Stewart, 90, of Lebanon. Mr. Stewart, who served in the U.S. Army, died Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Lebanons Quality Care Nursing Home.

Born September 11, 1921, in Providence, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late James W. and Elizabeth Henry Stewart.

Mr. Stewart was a retired carpenter and a Presbyterian. He was a member of the Lafayette #47 F & A.M in Cumberland, RI; a Shriner, and a member of the American Legion.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday morning, May 31 at the Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon, for Mrs. Crook, 91.
She died Tuesday, May 29, 2012.
Interment was in the Antioch Cemetery, Trousdale County.
Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon, was in charge of arrangements.

Cracker Barrel board elects two

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. (Nasdaq: CBRL) Thursday announced the election of Tom Barr and Glenn Davenport to its Board of Directors, effective immediately.

This election marks the next phase of the Companys continuing Board succession process and brings the number of Cracker Barrel Board members to 13, with 11 of them independent and six who have joined the Board during the past 12 months. These elections further enhance the Boards food service industry expertise, a spokesperson said.

Barr, 44, serves as Vice President, Global Coffee, at Starbucks Coffee Company (Nasdaq: SBUX) and has been a member of Starbucks marketing and products team since 2000 with responsibilities for Starbucks U.S. retail coffee business.During his 11 years with Starbucks, Barr has led North American Marketing, U.S. Product Management, and U.S. Food categories in senior executive roles.

CU Phoenix Ball set for Saturday

Cumberland Universitys 29th annual Phoenix Ball will kick off Saturday night with very few tickets remaining to the universitys premier fund-raising gala.

CU Director of Communications Phillip Carter said they have sold almost every table sponsorship available and noted that around 180 tickets overall have been purchased to the event.

Just a few, if any tickets are left, we are almost sold out, Carter said.

The ball, to be held in the historic Baird Chapel on campus, will feature several auction items to benefit the school, including a Phoenix Ball Medallion provided by Coxs Jewelry & Gifts and the Phoenix Ball Pendant, donated by the Jewelers of Lebanon.

Lebanon Library announces Summer Reading program

Sign-up is now under way for the Summer Reading program at the Lebanon Public Library.

Dont forget to stop by your public library this summer and check out everything going on.

We have programs for all ages, said Nancy Fowler, deputy director and childrens librarian.

The childrens program this year is entitled Dream Big Read. This is for ages birth to 6th grade. There are prizes for reading books and programs every week. Registration began May 29, but you may still register throughout June. The programs run through July 10.

CU will host Saturday's Mid-TN Senior All-Star game

Three former Wilson County prep baseball standouts will be among the participants in the inaugural Middle Tennessee Senior All-Star Classic on tap Saturday at Cumberland Universitys Stockton Field.

Friendship Christian will be represented catcher Drew Erie and infielder Kyle Wood in the Class A vs. Class AA game. Mt. Juliet High infielder Forrest Goodwin will play in the Class AAA vs. Division II contest.

For event organizer Davy Cothran, the all-star event has been on his mind for quite some time.
