KINGSPORT -- Cumberland was just 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position and the 11th-ranked Bulldogs wasted a tremendous effort from lefthander Anthony Gomez, as Campbellsville scored twice in the 11th inning for a 2-0 victory in the Mid-South Conference Championships Friday at Hunter Wright Stadium.
The Bulldogs collected nine hits in the game but stranded 11 baserunners, including the bases loaded with no out in the 10th inning. Craig Monson struck out, Brodie Ross grounded out and pinch-hitter Bryan Haney fouled out allowing the Tigers (30-17) to respond quickly.

KINGSPORT -- A lackluster performance in the Mid-South Conference Championships behind them, the Cumberland baseball team will have almost two weeks to get ready for the Opening Round of the NAIA Championships May 9.
Assured of a berth in the 45-team "regional" format by virtue of winning the MSC regular season title, the No. 11 ranked Bulldogs have much work to do in order to have a shot at another trip to the AVISTA NAIA World Series.
"We've got a lot of time off so we can try to reverse this lull we're in," said CU head coach Woody Hunt. "We're not a very confident team right now, we've had three bad games in a row.
KINGSPORT -- Cumberlands Courtney Maynard and Allison Blackwood both earned First Team All-Mid-South Conference honors and Jessica Roper and Natalie Garcia were each named Second Team in a vote of league coaches, as announced by the league office here Friday before the start of the conference tournament.
Maynard leads the Mid-South Conference with a 1.56 earned-run-average while compiling a 17-8 record in 27 appearances with 25 starts. The junior has allowed just 36 earned runs in 161.1 innings of work with 134 strikeouts compared to only 41 walks. The Lancaster native has 20 complete games and six shutouts and opponents are batting just .236 against her.
