Blackwood is CU's top scholar-athlete

LEBANON -- Cumberland softball player Allison Blackwood is the 2012-13 recipient of the Lindsey Donnell Award presented annually to a Bulldog student-athlete who excels in both academics and athletics.

The award is given in honor of the late Lindsey Donnell, a former Bulldog football Little All-American and former professor at Cumberland University.

Blackwood is a four-time All-Conference honoree, earning First Team All-League accolades in each of the last three seasons. The Lawrence County High School graduate has played in 209 career games for the Bulldogs, accumulating 35 doubles, 24 home runs and 158 RBIs and 54 walks.

FCS wins 8A baseball

Friendship Christian School will take a record of 26-6 into Mondays first round home game of the Region 4A baseball tournament. The Commanders rolled to their final District 8A title after downing Trousdale County 14-3 Wednesday night in the district finals.

FCS will host Clay County High Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Tournament MVP Michael Hawks was a one-man gang for the Commanders, going 4-for-4 in the three spot with four runs scored and five RBI. He ended the game on the 10-run rule with a grandslam homer in the bottom of the fifth.
