CU softball season ends Tuesday

BULLDOGS FALL 6-0 TO SPRING HILL
HARDEEVILLE, S.C. -- Cumberland stranded six runners in the first six innings, including the bases loaded in the fourth, and 15th-ranked Spring Hill College added four runs in the sixth en route to a 6-0 victory over the Bulldogs Tuesday in the NAIA Championship Opening Round at the Gray Sports Complex.

With the loss the Bulldogs (37-22) season ends after making their first-ever appearance in the national tournament.

Allison Blackwood, Megan Lavery and Kaleigh Pearce all singled for the Bulldogs, but CU was 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position in the contest, missing several chances to score in what was a 2-0 game until the bottom of the sixth.

FCS hosts TCHS tonight

Commander pitchers hurl perfect game
Friendship Christian hosts District 8A foe Trousdale County tonight for the Region 4A championship with both teams being assured a spot in Friday's Class A Sectional.

On Monday, the Commanders (27-6) got flawless pitching performances from starter Brennan Swindoll and reliever Stefan Remus as the pair combined for a five-inning, perfect game -- blanking Clay County 11-0 in the regional opener.

Wilson Central, Mt. Juliet eliminated
One day after pushing each other to the limit for the District 9AAA tournament championship, both Wilson Central and Mt. Juliet saw their softball seasons come to a close with opening round regional losses.

District 9AAA champ Wilson Central dropped a 2-1 home decision to District 10AAA runner-up Dickson County while Mt. Juliet fell 3-0 a Clarksville.

Region 5AAA baseball
MT. JULIET -- The Golden Bears scored six run in the bottom of the first and went on to defeat Clarksville High 9-4 Monday in the regional opener.

Now 25-11 overall, Mt. Juliet will host Rossview High Wednesday in a 7 p.m. contest.
