A Z Mitchell Ray, 79

A celebration of life was held Monday, Aug. 5 for Mr. Ray, 79, of Sparta. A longtime resident of Wilson County, he died Aug. 1, 2013.

Interment was at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements were in the care of Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon.
Albert Clay "Diddy" Jennings, 73

Funeral services will be held 12 Noon Thursday, Aug. 8 at Cedars of Lebanon Primitive Baptist Church for Mr. Jennings, 73, of Lebanon. He died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013.

Bobby Summers, 73

Graveside funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7 at Wilson County Memorial Gardens for Mr. Summers, 73. He died Aug, 4, 2013 at Lebanon's University Medical Center.
Lebanon's J.C. Hellum Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Spurgeon Thompson, 90

Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7 at the Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home for Mr. Thompson, 90, of Gladeville. A 1942 graduate of Lebanon High and an AVCO retiree, he died Aug. 4, 2013, at Quality Care Nursing Home.

Charlie Kellar, 88

Military graveside services were held Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Salem Cemetery in Liberty for Mr. Kellar, 88, of Lebanon. He died Thursday August 1, 2013 at his residence.
Lebanon's Partlow Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Darlene Jones, 60

Funeral services were held Monday morning, Aug. 5, 2013 at Bond Memorial Chapel for Mrs. Jones, 60, of Mt. Juliet. The wife of Clayton Gwen Jones and a designer for ViJay Jewelers, she died Friday, Aug. 2, 2013.

Entombment followed at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to New Leash On Life, 507 Jim Draper Blvd., Lebanon, 37087.
Arrangements were in the care of Bond Memorial Chapel, Mt. Juliet.

Patty Lynn Hamm, 50

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 at Bond Memorial Chapel for Mrs. Hamm, 50, of Mt. Juliet. A 1991 graduate of Mt. Juliet High, she died Friday, Aug. 2, 2013.

Paul Frasier, Jr., 70

Mr. Frasier, 70 of Lebanon, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2013. No services are scheduled at this time.
Arrangements were in the care of Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon.

Warren Lee Carter, 67

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, Aug. 6 at the Corona Baptist Church for Mr. Carter, 67, of Mt. Juliet. He died July 31, 2013 at Summit Medical Center.
Lebanon's Saddler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Wesley "Buddy" Matthew Branham, 66

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8 at the Partlow Funeral Chapel for Mr. Branham, 66, of Lebanon. A U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam war and retired from the State of Tennessee, he died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013 at the Alvin C. York Veteran's Hospital in Murfreesboro.

Lebanon City Council passes budget

An annual budget and tax rate for the fiscal year which began July 1 and ends June 30, 2014 was passed by the Lebanon City Council Tuesday night, Aug. 6.

On third reading, the budget passed with a vote of 3-3, with Mayor Philip Craigheads yes vote as the tie-breaker. Ward 1 Councilor Lanny Jewell, Ward 2 Councilor Fred Burton and Ward 6 Councilor Kathy Warmath voted no. Ward 3 Councilor Rob Cesternino, Ward 4 Councilor Joe Hayes and Ward 5 Councilor Tick Bryan voted yes.

Jewell explained that he believed the 26.19-cent tax increase was still a bit high.

Hayes made an amendment to use some funds in the budget to improve sewer to residents on the north side of Leeville Pike. Councilors approved this amendment.

WEMA's Jewell, Hutto hold meeting

Wilson County Mayor Randall Hutto sat down with exiting Wilson Emergency Management Director John Jewell Tuesday morning to discuss a plan of action to fill the position.

Jewell submitted a letter of resignation to Hutto, as well as WEMA employees, on Friday morning. Jewell wrote that after a review of my recent accident near Watertown on the afternoon of June 26 by the disciplinary committee and consultations with Mayor Hutto over political pressures, I have made the decision to resign as Director of Wilson Emergency Management.

Brazier wins 36th annual HPI

LEBANON -- Cole Brazier shot a blistering 33 on his final nine holes Sunday to win the championship flight 36th annual Hunters Point Mens Invitational Tournament.

Brazier, from Lebanon, went 34, 38, 37 and 33 to finish at 142, two strokes ahead of runner-up Shane Martin (144) and three strokes better than Chuck Coffee and Tim Oliver who finished in a tie for third at 145. Donnie Woodard and Kenric King each shot 147 and finished in a tie for fourth.
