Hotel/motel tax increase dies in subcommittee

Wilson County Government’s attempt to secure funding through an increase in the hotel/motel tax for the proposed Expo Center at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center via a legislative private act needing the General Assembly’s approval died Thursday afternoon.

Major projects in works for MJ

Mt. Juliet -- Although City Engineer/Director of Public Works Marlin Keel is planning to retire the first of May, he’s made plans that will keep the Mt. Juliet Public Works Department pretty busy throughout the spring, summer, and foreseeable future.

Inclement weather overnight and this morning has caused the Cumberland University softball team to cancel its originally scheduled Mid-South Conference twinbill on the road versus St. Catharine College in Kentucky.

MJ Christian 15, Stratford 13
NASHVILLE -- Mt. Juliet Christian Acdemy held on for a wild 15-13 victory at Stratford High Thursday afternoon.

Pounding out 11 hits, the Saints improved to 5-5 on the season, and took advantage of seven Stratford errors.

Lebanon 3, Cookeville 2
LEBANON -- Kaitlin Eakes drilled a booming double to drive in Megan Brown with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as the Lady Devils' pulled out a 3-2 home win over Cookeville Thursday.

LHS improved to 7-4 on the season as Kasey Squires picked up the pitching decision. Squires scattered 10 hits, struck out one and walked one.
