A celebration of life service will be held 6 p.m. Friday, May 2 at the Partlow Funeral Chapel for Mr. McDowell, 59, of Lebanon. Employed with Gibson Broach & Tool for 30 years and a member of Hurricane Baptist Church, Mr. McDowell died Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at his residence.

Californa native takes top honor
LEBANON -- Cumberland University junior Jessica Roper has been named the Mid-South Conference Softball Player of the Year. Roper, a catcher from Bellflower, California and a transfer from Northern Illinois, led the MSC with a .451 batting average and on-base percentage (.519). She notched 44 RBIs during the 2014 season and scored 39 times, landing in the top-ten in both categories.
