Estelle Prichard Jewell, 96

Estelle Jewell, age 96, passed away on May 1, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, James “Jimmy” R. Jewell, Sr.  They were married July 2, 1938 by her grandpa Reverend Joseph Webster at the First United Methodist Church.

$1 surcharge issue not dead

District 46 State Rep. Mark Pody continues to say that he believes Wilson County Government can impose a $1 surcharge on all tickets sold to events at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center – without the approval of the General Assembly via a private act – as long as the money goes toward maintenance of the facility.

9-AAA SOFTBALL -- Higher seeds struggle

Upsets were the order of the day in Thursday's opening round of the District 9-AAA softball tournament as a pair of three-seeds went on the road for victories.

Lebanon High (16-15) bunched three runs in the top of the top of the fourth inning and scored a 3-2 win at Station Camp.

Cumberland upsets LWU 3-1
DANVILLE, Ky. – Senior Jessica Lozano sparkled in relief as Cumberland outlasted top-seeded and No. 9 ranked Lindsey Wilson 3-1 Friday morning in the second round of the Mid-South Conference Championship at Millennium Park.

Lozano (10-5) pitched the final four innings in relief and allowed just one hit. The lone hit was erased when the Wilmington, Calif., native doubled up the Blue Raiders on a failed sacrifice bunt attempt.

FCS teams suffer Thursday losses

Baseball, softball at home Friday
Friendship Christian's baseball and softball teams will be at home tonight (Friday) in the opening round of their respective DII Regional Tournaments.

The Lady Commanders sport a record of 25-12 and will host Battle Ground Academy in a 6 p.m. game. The FCS baseball team will host Donelson Christian tonight at 6:30 p.m. in their regional opener.
