Former principal of Lebanon High School and former Wilson County Superintendent of Schools, he died Thursday, May 15, 2014, at his home.

Jeff Bennett signs minor league deal

Lebanon's Jeff Bennett has signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers and will be assigned to the club's AAA team in Albuquerque, NM -- the Isotopes.

A native of Gordonsville, Bennett has pitched in 179 major league games with three teams, including the Milwaukee Brewers (2004), the Atlanta Braves and the Tampa Bay Rays.

Bennett started the 2014 season pitching in the Mexican league.

Central hosts Franklin in sectional

Winner goes to Spring Fling
GLADEVILLE -- Wilson Central will host Franklin High tonight at 6 p.m. in a Class AAA Sectional with the winner advancing to the TSSAA Spring Fling next week in Murfreesboro.

The Lady Wildcats (32-15) won the program's first Region 5-AAA championship with a 3-0 victory over Clarksville High Thursday.

LHS Booster Club scholarships awarded

Ten Blue Devil seniors receive $1,000 each
The Lebanon All-Sports Booster Club awarded $10,000 in scholarships to members of the 2014 Senior Class during Senior Awards Day Friday, May 16 in the Terry Edwards Auditorium

Each senior received a one-time $1,000 scholarship from the organization, payable directly to their college -- $500 per semester.
