Awesome sand sculptures come to Fair

On the opening day of the 2014 Wilson County Fair, Friday, Aug. 15, six teams competed to bring their interpretation of the themes for this year’s Fair to life via sand sculptures thanks to New Leash on Life’s inaugural event Sand in the City®.

But before the first shovel of sand is tossed, voters can go online and vote for their favorite team by making a donation to the non-profit animal welfare organization in Wilson County.

MJ rezoning vote held up by protests

Neighbors want Greenhill site kept residential
MT. JULIET – The continued protests of neighbors prompted the Mt. Juliet City Commission to postpone voting on the second reading of an ordinance rezoning about 7.5 acres on Lebanon Road Monday, Aug. 11.

The original request to change the zoning from a complicated mixture of residential and Planned Unit Development (PUD) to Commercial Retail Center (CRC) was made by Dave Braunscheidel for Greenhill Development Properties.

Pledge, National Anthem returns at LHS

Posts last week on the Parents of Wilson County TN Schools Facebook page drew attention to a change at Lebanon High School.
    
One parent posted that their child reported they were told the daily recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of the National Anthem would be limited to weekly on Mondays because of timeliness. The school changed from a block schedule to seven periods this year.

MJ pep rally planned Thursday

Season tickets will be offered
The Mt. Juliet High School Quarterback Club invites all Golden Bear faithful to a pep rally 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14 at the stadium.

The team, coaching staff, the Band of Gold, the cheerleaders and dance team will on hand with public address announcer Blake Hall serving as master of ceremonies.  Concessions will be available.

Texas rallies for walk-off win
LEXINGTON, SC -- A heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Paris, Texas Monday afternoon ended the Dixie Youth “O” Zone World Series for Lebanon’s 12U American League All-Stars.
    
Tennessee “O” Zone champions, the Lebanon squad finished 1-2 in the 10-team World Series and wrapped up a stellar postseason run with a mark of 15-5-1 overall.

PREP GOLF -- Central sweeps LHS Tuesday

GLADEVILLE -- Wilson Central's golf teams improved to 2-0 on the season following Tuesday's sweep over District 9AAA rival Lebanon High at Pine Creek Golf Course.

The Wildcats shot a team score of 331 while Lebanon posted a 351. The Lady Wildcats squeezed out a narrow one stroke win over LHS -- 176 to 177.
