Father indicted for child's death

Lodged under $250,000 bond
Lebanon Police arrested John Thomas Cormier, Jr., 21, of Lebanon in relation to the Aug. 18 death of his 3-month-old child.

Chief Scott Bowen told The Wilson Post that due to the sensitive nature of the case other names, such as the name of the infant, have not been released at this time.

MJ to receive $1.5 million sidewalk grant

Mt. Juliet will soon have some big bucks to beef up a section of Belinda Parkway with sidewalks.

Mt. Juliet Commissioner Art Giles said the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) has chosen Mt. Juliet to receive what he described as "an unbelievably huge" grant for $1.2-plus million, with the city's match of $302,000.

WHS wrestling gym gets final OK

Funding approved by County Commission
Watertown's getting a new wrestling, gymnastics and cheerleading gym for its high school. The gym for the new Watertown High School won the Wilson County School Board's approval last week, and now the County Commission has approved funding it.

Like the school board, which narrowly approved the project by a 3-2 vote, the County Commission was not unanimous in giving its nod to the project Monday, Nov. 17. However, the commissioners' 18-7 vote was more lopsided in favor of funding the proposed gym.

MJ's Chowbay is 9-AAA co-MVP

Mt. Juliet High's senior quarterback Nolan Chowbay has been named District 9-AAA football co-Most Valuable Player in a vote of district coaches.

Senior linebacker Weston Rountree of Wilson Central was voted Defensive Most Valuable Player and Mt. Juliet kicker Hayes Foster was voted co-Special Teams MVP.

Lebanon High's basketball teams will be on the road Friday -- making the trip to Sparta to take on White County High. The girls game will tip at 6 p.m. at Roy Sewell Gymnasium. Sparta radio station WSMT-AM will provide online steaming of the game at www.1050wsmt.com.

The Blue Devils of Coach Jim McDowell are coming off a 69-61 win over Shelbyville Central in Tuesday night's home and season opener. Lebanon rallied from four points down in the first quarter to mount a 31-19 lead at intermission.

Ash plans to continue supporting the proposed Fire Station 4 at Eastgate that was strongly promoted by his predecessor Joe Hayes.
