The Wilson County Black History Committee will host its annual tribute to the Lebanon Clowns Negro League baseball team 4 p.m. Sunday, July 26 at Pickett-Rucker United Methodist Church.
The team will be honored as well as Loharrell Stevenson, the first African-American to play sports at Lebanon High and a member of the inaugural class of the LHS Sports Hall of Fame.
Marshall's Brandon Byrd --
Cumberland's football team picked up an offensive playmaker last week when transfer Brandon Byrd announced his commitment to the Bulldogs. Byrd will be eligible once he is admitted to school.
A native of Gibsonville, Fla., Byrd spent the last two seasons at NCAA Divison I Marshall University -- sitting out a redshirt in 2013 and playing behind three productive backs in 2014.
