Renowned fastpitch / slowpitch softball player
His name was Lester Ray Nixon, but almost everyone called him "Pop".

Legendary softball player Pop Nixon died Tuesday, May 31 at Lebanon's Quality Care Nursing Home following an extended illness. He was 76 years old.

Born in Smith County and a graduate of Smith County High Nixon was a wizard on the ballfield, playing baseball in his youth, then moving on to the fastpitch game and eventually closing out his fantastic playing career in slowpitch.
