This, that and the other

By now, most of you deer hunters have heard about the change in the regulations concerning what is checked in as a buck. For many years, if the animal had antlers three-inches or more, it must be checked in as a buck. A deer with shorter antlers but still visible was classified as antlerless and checked in as something besides a buck.

From day one, I opposed that. My stance was and is, if it was a male animal, regardless of antler length, then it was a buck and should be checked in as one.

Proceeds from annual golf tournament
The second annual Tyler McChurch Foundation Memorial Golf Tournament was held Monday, May 16 at Lebanon's Five Oaks Golf & Country Club and raised over $46,000.

Named in honor of the former Cumberland University and friendship Christian football standout who died in February of 2013 in an auto accident, the foundation supports youth football in Wilson County and awarded four $5,000 scholarships to Cumberland University for Wilson County students.

Former MJHS pitching star
In sports, it's not uncommon for a player to transition to coach when his or her playing days are over.

Some would say it's a way of giving back to the sport that gave them so much opportunity.

Mt. Juliet native "Kenzie" Roark would agree with that statement.

Since she pitched her last game at Virginia Tech in 2011, the former Hokie standout has made the move to coaching.
