LEBANON -- Lebanon High tuned up for the annual Wilson County Invitational with an 8-0 victory over Mt. Juliet Christian Academy Wednesday, March 22 at Brent Foster Field.
Blue Devil pitchers Evan Britt and JaKeese Turner combined for a five-hit shutout. Britt started and struck out nine in four innings of work to get the decision. Turner added three strikeouts in his three inning stint.
Honorable mention All-America --
Cumberland junior Diondrey Holt, Jr., earned Honorable Mention All-America accolades Thursday, as announced by the national office.
Players were selected by the NAIA-Men's Basketball Coaches Association All-America Committee.
The Louisville, Ky., native posted 18.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.96 assists per game this season, netting 20-plus points in 11 contests, including a season-best 33 points in January versus Lindsey Wilson.
Third team All-America --
The 2017 NAIA Division I Women's Basketball All-America Team was released Thursday afternoon and Cumberland's Nicole Bowers landed a spot on the third team. A graduate of Nashville's Hillsboro High, she was also named First Team All Mid-South Conference.
Bowers averaged 14.8 points and 11.3 rebounds per game, ranking fourth in the Mid-South in points and leading the league in rebounding.
Central sweeps LHS Wednesday --
LEBANON -- The Wilson Central tennis teams swept a pair of District 9-AAA matches from host Lebanon High Wednesday afternoon at the Boyd-Rushing Courts.
The Wildcats claimed a hard-fought 4-3 win over Lebanon with senior Houston Wood pulling out the deciding match with a 7-5, 6-3 decision over LHS junior John Kelley.
