I have said it many times. I am not a turkey hunter.
I have been, have killed some, a couple big ones. But I am not eat up with it. It may be, because I don't like to eat turkey, never have.
But as an outdoor writer and somewhat of a woodsman and hunter, when the season opens, I feel almost obligated to go.

A 'growing' legacy

It was a moment to remember those who, quite literally, grew our community.

Four outstanding men were inducted into the Wilson County Agricultural Hall of Fame on Tuesday night. Living legends Hale Moss and David M. Tomlinson were in the 2017 lineup, which also included posthumous honorees, AC Wharton, Sr. and Dr. Sam McFarland.

MT. JULIET -- Mother Nature was the clear cut winner Tuesday, April 11 as the scheduled District 9-AAA meeting between Lebanon and Mt. Juliet High fell victim to torrential rain.

The 7 p.m. first pitch went off as scheduled under threatening skies, but was play halted twice before officials plugged the plug in the top of the third inning.

SOFTBALL -- WHS wins big at Trousdale Co.

HARTSVILLE -- Amber Wright drilled a pair of home runs and drove in four runs Tuesday, April 11 as Watertown downed Trousdale County High 11-1 in District 8-A softball.

Jada Moss had a double and a single to account for three RBI while Bailey Griffin was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4.

Alicia House started and struck out eight over four innings, allowing one hit.

Selecting a career path was easy for Heather Sewell Mitchell. After all, in true Southern, "Steel Magnolias" fashion, Mitchell practically grew up in a salon.

"My great aunt, Mary Abercrombie, owned Casa Bonita Salon in Lebanon, and I would sit and watch all of the women in there working. They always looked like they were having so much fun and enjoying their jobs. I wanted to be just like them," she remembered.
