SWEETWATER -- A magical post season run came to a halt as the Lebanon Rotary Dixie Major (11-12) all-stars were ousted from their state tournament.
Winners of 10 consecutive tournament games, including four-game sweeps of the sub-district and district tournaments, the Lebanon crew dropped consecutive games to Chester County (5-3) Sunday afternoon and to Lewis County by a score of 14-3 on Monday..
Lebanon opened play in the state tournament with an 18-16 win over Summertown Friday evening. The local team slugged four homers in that game -- two by Ray Coggins.
On Saturday, Lebanon dusted Madisonville 5-2 as Andrew Franklin worked three innings with eight strikeouts to pick up the save. Ethan Parker Shelton had a pair of hits and drove in four runs.
Sundays game with Chester County found Lebanon limited to three hits in a 5-3 defeat. Leading 3-2 in the fifth, Lebanon gave up three unearned runs.
Lewis County jumped out to a 14-0 lead in Mondays 14-3 losers bracket loss -- a game that ended in four innings.
Lebanon was one of the final six teams remaining in the 16-team, double-elimination tournament.
Lebanon Rotarys Dixie Minor (9-10) all-stars open play in their state tournament Friday, July 29 with a 3 p.m. game vs. Crockett County in Mt. Pleasant. The Lebanon - Crockett County winner will play Saturday at 5 p.m. against the winner of the Madison Central American vs. Kingston first round game.
