Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9 at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home for Mr. Clayton Smith Lane, 87, of Lebanon. A Wilson County native, and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he died Jan. 6, 2013 at University Medical Center.
A Celebration March is planned for Saturday, Jan. 19, in honor of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.s birthday. Although still in the planning stages, organizers hope to get the march under way at 9 a.m. with information to be released on the route once it is finalized. A brunch and program will be held after the march at Pickett Rucker United Methodist Churchs Hope Center. All clergy and sanitation workers are invited to participate as they will be the honored guests. Organizers said they hope others will join in as well, including other groups and young people. Tickets for the brunch will be $10 and may be purchased from any member of the Wilson County Black History Committee and at the Roy Bailey African American Museum and History Center.
