CU hosts Bluefield this weekend

Cumberland baseball coach Woody Hunt will take his team into the final weekend of the regular season looking for some more grit and hustle in preparation for the NAIA postseason.

Bluefield College provides the opposition in a three-game series beginning today at Stockton Field. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. with live radio coverage beginning at 1:45 p.m. on WCOR AM-1490. Saturdays doubleheader is scheduled for 12 Noon with Senior Day recognition planned between games.

Locals headed to Trojan Classic --
The baseball teams from Wilson Central and Friendship Christian will be busy this weekend, participating in the annual Trojan Classic, sponsored by Soddy Daisy High.

Today, the Commanders are set for an afternoon contest vs. host Soddy Daisy followed by an 8:45 p.m. game vs. Grundy County.

Thursday's prep softball

Lebanon tops Mt. Juliet --
MT. JULIET -- Lebanon High broke loose in the late innings for an 8-5 victory at Mt. Juliet Thursday in District 9AAA softball action.

With the game tied at 3-all after five innings, LHS hung a four-spot in the top of the sixth inning and added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh -- improving to 14-9 overall / 5-1 in the district.
