Symphony On the Lawn set June 11

The popular Symphony On the Lawn at Cumberland University is set for Tuesday, June 11, with pre-show entertainment commencing at 5:30 p.m. and featuring the Suzuki Players and the Mt. Juliet Gold.

So, bring your chairs, blankets and ice chests full of food to celebrate summer coming with a picnic, said Dottie Allen of the independent Cumberland University Fine Arts Council (CUFAC) that has brought the Nashville Symphony to Lebanon for the past 14 or more years on an annual basis.

If you don't want or have time to pack your own picnic supper, we will have three vendors on hand selling food. They are Blue Moon Barbeque, Busters Real Ice Cream and Sugar Baby Cakery, she added.

Gates open at 5 p.m. Tickets for the concert are $5 each and available for early sale at Regions Bank of Lebanon, Cox's Gifts & Jewelry, the Lebanon/Wilson County Chamber of Commerce, the Mt. Juliet/West Wilson County Chamber of Commerce offices and at the door on Tuesday night. All children and students are admitted free of charge.

Associate Conductor Kelly Corcoran will lead the orchestra which will perform music from Star Wars, Sleeping Beauty, Harry Potter and West Side Story, along with classics by Copland, Prokofiev and other crowd favorites.

Families so look forward to this show each year because the whole family enjoys it, Allen said. It's such great fun to see the little kids reacting to the Symphony music by dancing. The Symphony plays such a great selection of music each year and it's wonderful to look out and see a sea of 1,500 to 2,000 fans in the audience all enjoying it. We hope there's even more in attendance this year. Reps from CUFAC were guests on Thursday on the Coleman Walker Show on WANT Radio and got a good reaction from the listening audience.

The Nashville Symphony Orchestra will bring its instrument petting zoo, where children of all ages can get a chance to try playing an instrument.

The Eagle Scout Color Guard from Troop 360 will be presenting the flag before the National Anthem.

Sponsors again this year for the Nashville Symphony's appearance are Cracker Barrel and Regions Bank.
