Bell joins planning commission

Lebanon Planning Commission will soon welcome Cumberland University Professor and Wilson County native Rick Bell.

Bell will replace David Petty on the panel. Petty, a longtime contractor, was the head football coach at Lebanon High School in the early 1970s.

Child critical after diving board accident

From Post staff reports

A 6-year-old child remains in critical but stable condition after a fall Thursday night from the high-dive board at the Jimmy Floyd Family Center in Lebanon.

Lebanon Police Chief Scott Bowen said officers responded to the JFFC around 6:45 p.m., Thursday, where the female child, identified as Lucinda Rauch,had reportedly fallen from the ladder of the high-dive board onto the concrete below.

Committee OK's 2013-14 budget

Wilson County Budget Committee approved the fiscal year 2013-14 budgets for both the county and schools at its Tuesday night meeting that included raises for county and school employees.

All county employees, except for elected officials, will receive a 2.5 percent raise, while all school employees, except for substitute teachers and crossing guards, will receive a 1.5 percent increase if the county and Wilson County Board of Education budget both pass the full commission at its Monday, Aug. 26, meeting.

The committee also approved leaving the current property tax rate at $2.5704 for the next year, which is $642.60 for a home valued at $100,000.

Skies open up

Heavy rains inundated parts of Wilson County Thursday, causing flash flooding in some areas, particularly in Mt. Juliet, with some individuals rescued from their homes.

No injuries were reported, but the high water caused some anxious moments for some residents as it began seeping into their homes.

The area most affected was Mt. Juliet in West Wilson County which had a number of roadways covered with water.

WBMS basketball camps
Winfree Bryant Middle School will host "Flight School" basketball camps for boys and girls graded 4-8 in September. Coach Clint McCulloch will welcome boys Friday, Sept. 20 from 6-8 p.m. and again on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 1-4 p.m. Coach Aaron Tomlinson will hold a girls camp Friday, Sept. 27 from 6-8 p.m. followed by a 9 a.m. - 12 Noon session on Saturday, Sept. 28.
