Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 at the Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon, for Mrs. Barnes, 60. She died August 27, 2013.

Lt. Col. Robert Hunter Lindsey, Jr., 42

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 30 at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet for Lt. Col. Lindsey, 42, of Mt. Juliet. Born in Baltimore, MD, he died Aug. 23, 2013.

After graduation from the University of Georgia, he began his military career in the United States Army. He served in Korea, Macedonia, Bosnia, and Kosovo, as well as taught at the US Military Academy. He earned a Master's degree from Vanderbilt University in 2004, and was most recently working towards his PhD.

Inurnment will follow the service at the Nashville National Cemetery.

Mrs. Allene Haralson Smith, 95

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 the Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home for Mrs. Smith, 95, of Gladeville. She passed away August 28, 2013, at her home.

Born in Gladeville, she was the daughter of the late John and Sophia Estes Haralson. Mrs. Smith was 1935 Salutatorian of DuPont High School, a homemaker, and a member of Gladeville United Methodist Church.

Sarah Carmene Hight Eakes, 85

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet for Mrs. Eakes, 85, of Mt. Juliet. A member of the Center Chapel church of Christ, she died Aug. 28, 2013.

Stephen Staich, 93

Graveside services were held Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 28 at Wilson County Memorial Park for Mr. Staich, 93, of the Shop Springs Community.

Wanye Coats, 86

Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Friday, Aug. 30 at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet for Mr. Wayne Coats, 86, of Mt. Juliet. A lontime church of Christ minister and former owner of the Mt. Juliet Funeral Home and Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens, Mr. Coats died Aug. 27, 2013.

Arrests made in car burglaries

LEBANON -- Local authorities arrested two persons, one a juvenile, early Thursday morning in connection with a vehicle burglary.

A Wilson County Sheriffs Department deputy stopped a vehicle about 5:40 a.m. in Coles Ferry Village off Coles Ferry Pike after receiving a call regarding a suspicious vehicle. Lebanon Police Department also responded as this location is inside the city limits.

Authorities in Michigan arrested two suspects separately Thursday charged in the homicide of a Lebanon man earlier this month.

According to Lebanon Police Chief Scott Bowen, Shawn Betty Jr., 20, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Detroit late Thursday morning. His accomplice, Derrick Devaughn Carr, 20, was arrested earlier in the day by police in Farmington Hills, Mich., just outside of Detroit.

CU volleyball downs TN Temple

Deering notches 500th career win
LEBANON -- The Cumberland volleyball team outlasted Tennessee Temple in straight sets to open the season with a 3-0 victory Wednesday at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center.

Head coach Dewayne Deering earned his 500th career victory with the win. Deerings win total ranks him ninth among active coaches in the NAIA.
