A funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24 at St. Stephens Catholic Community for Mr. Smith, 21 of Mt. Juliet.  The son of Randy and Tammy Smith, he died Jan. 18, 2014.

Dorothy Nivens, 78

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 at Sellars Funeral Home for Mrs. Nivens, 78, of Lebanon.
The widow of Harvey "Red" Nivens and owner of the Veteran's Home in Lebanon, Mrs. Nivens died Jan. 21, 2014.

Mason Ellis Dillard, 19

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 at Bond Memorial Chapel for Mr. Dillard, 19, of Mt. Juliet.
He died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014.

Virginia Hallums, 82

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 at Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon for Mrs. Hallums, 82.  A longtime member of Highland Heights Church of Christ, she died Jan. 22, 2014.

BOE to meet Saturday morning re: Setterlund’s future

Wilson County Board of Education will meet Saturday to determine the future of Director of Schools Dr. Tim Setterlund, who took over the reins of the school system less than seven months ago.

County BOE calls special meeting for Saturday

The Wilson County Board of Education will meet in special called session on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at 9:00 a.m., at the Central Office located at 351 Stumpy Lane, Lebanon, TN to consider, and, if necessary, take action on, termination of the contract of Wilson County Director of Schools, Dr. Timothy R. Setterlund for professional misconduct, or removal from office and any and all necessary action related thereto. This item of business shall be the first item on the agenda.

A near capacity crowd is expected to be on hand Friday as Wilson County rivals Wilson Central and Lebanon get together for a District 9-AAA basketball doubleheader at Campbell Brandon Gymnasium. Girls action will tip off 6:30 p.m.

NWTF banquet set Feb. 28
The Cedar Roost Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will be having the annual Hunter's Heritage Banquet Friday, Feb. 28 at The Mill in Lebanon.

CU applies for NCAA membership

Following through on intentions announced last summer, Cumberland University submitted its application to the NCAA earlier this week for membership in Division II.

The application deadline to the national office is February 1 for any institution wishing to apply for reclassification during the current academic year.

Roger Perry steps down again at MJHS

Some seven months after assuming the offensive coordinator role at Mt. Juliet High School, former Golden Bear head coach Roger Perry is again taking a step back.
