Lady Bears win Landair Classic --
GREENEVILLE -- Mt. Juliet claimed its third Landair Ladies' Classic Championship Wednesday afternoon defeating Bearden of Knoxville 62-44 in the championship game at Hal Henard Gym.

Ashley Roby buried 24 points while tournament MVP Ronjanae DeGray had 18 and sister Rae DeGray chipped in with 15 points and eight rebounds.

Mt. Juliet led from start to finish and improved to 14-2 on the season.

Roby hit six 3-pointers as Bearden tried to pack the paint to stop the post attack of the DeGray sisters.

Anajae Stephney and Holly Hagood each scored 10 points for Bearden (15-3).

Mt. Juliet jumped into a 17-12 lead at the end of one period and maintained a commanding 35-22 lead at intermission.

The Lady Bears will return to action Saturday, Jan. 3 as they travel to Shackle Island to play at District 9-AAA rival Beech.

TUESDAY'S SEMIINALS -- Mt. Juliet High's Bears survived a 49-46 decision over Smith County Tuesday night to earn a berth in the championship game of the 26th annual Landair Ladies' Classic opposite Knoxville Bearden.

The Bears were unable to put away Smith County until the closing minute as guard Callie Hackett of the Owls turned in one of the highlight performances of the Classic with 30 points.

In the first half she had scored 23 points of her team's 25 total, and she had an assist on the other basket.

Mt. Juliet was led by the DeGray sisters, Ron and Rae, as each scored 14 points. Karly Dyer scored 10.

Mt. Juliet (13-2) led 18-11 after one quarter, but Smith County (11-5) kept on their heels, closing to 27-25 by halftime and still down by a single point after three quarters.

The Lady Bears held the ball for over three minutes of the final period as Smith County, down by three points, refused to come out of their zone defense until just over a minute was left to play.
