AWARDS -- Sloan brings home hardware

BUCHANAN -- John L. Sloan recently added to his writing awards with a first and second place among members of the Tennessee Outdoor Writers Association at the annual conference and competition held April 27-29 at Paris Landing State Park.

Sloan, who writes a weekly column for The Wilson Post, has over 120 writing awards to his credit.

He won a first place in News Writing for his article "A Poor View of Hunters" that was published Sept. 28, 2016 in The Wilson Post.

He also placed second in the Feature category with his article "I Wish I Had Known" that ran in the March 30, 2016 edition of The Post.

Sloan has also won numerous awards in other outdoor press associations for newspaper and magazine writing and photography.

In newspaper writing alone, he has won 75 various awards.

Sloan is approaching his 43rd year of continuous writing for Wilson County newspapers.
