Saturday at Flex Lewis Classic
NASHVILLE -- Still a novice powerlifter, Lebanon's Hailey "Bug" Barrett picked up some impressive hardware over the weekend at the sixth annual Flex Lewis Pro/Am Classic at the Opryland Hotel.

A Lebanon High graduate, the 20 year-old Barrett won the Junior Amateur Division Bench Press with a person best of 220-pounds. She also won the overall best lift.

She's began training some two years ago when she started working at Graves Fitness Center.

Shortly thereafter, she was noticed by record-setting powerlifter and reigning Mr. Tennessee Harley Timbs.

"I told her she had the frame to really be good in the bench, if she was willing to work," Graves said.

"Harley told me if I could bench 205 at Opryland he would sponsor me," Barrett said.

"I did 205 my first lift and at the end of the competition, I just missed on 250."

Barrett plans to compete next in the Kentucky Muscle event set October in Louisville.
