Pitching dominates in three victories
NASHVILLE -- Waiting out an extended delay due to lightning and rain, three Mt. Juliet pitchers combined to strike out 17 in a Monday, March 20 7-0 win over Portland at Vanderbilt's Hawkins Field.
Starter Aaron Brown along with relievers Sean Hunley and Ethan Smith pitched a two-hit shutout as the Bears improved to 3-2 on the season. Brown struck out nine of the 10 batters he faced in three innings.
Hunley, who worked fourth, fifth and sixth innings, earned the decision.
Mt. Juliet scored two in the bottom of the first and second innings, one in the third and two more in the fifth.
John Dyer and Brayden Osborne each had two hits and two RBI for the winners.
Mt. Juliet will serve as a host site for the annual Wilson County Invitational beginning Thursday.
The Bears will entertain Fairview High in Thursday's 4 p.m. opening game, followed by a 6:30 p.m. contest with Arlington.
Friday's schedule finds MJHS playing Dyersburg at 6:30 p.m.
Pool play closes Saturday with a 4 p.m. game versus Springfield.
FCS no-hits The King's Academy
SEYMOUR -- Ninth grader Justin Seagraves tossed a complete game no-hitter to lift Friendship Christian to a 1-0 win over The King's Academy Monday afternoon in the East-Middle District opener for both teams. Seagraves struck out 12 with no walks.
Braden Reece drove in the game's only run with and RBI double in the top of the fifth.
The nightcap found FCS hurlers Reece, Ethan Bult and Chad Holcombe combining for another no-hitter in a 21-1 Commander victory.
Leading 2-1, the Commanders put the game out of reach with 10 runs in the second and eight more in the fourth.
FCS will host four games in the Wilson County Invitational beginning Thursday with a 2 p.m. game versus Station Camp.
At 6:30 p.m. the Commanders will take on Nashville Hillwood.
Friday's slate featured FCS playing Eagleville at 6:30 p.m. Friendship tackles Dyersburg Saturday at 11 a.m. to wrap up pool play.
