GLADEVILLE -- Wilson Central will host Clarksville Northeast Monday at 7 p.m. in the opening round of the Region 5-AAA baseball tournament after downing Beech 2-1 Thursday for the District 9-AAA championship.

The Wildcats scored twice in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Ethan Shelton and a bases loaded walk to Will Hudson.

Senior lefty Andrew Franklin went the distance on the mound for Central, working around four walks and limiting the Bucs to just five hits. He struck out five, throwing 108 pitches.

Leadoff man Mason Mobley went 2-for-4 with a run scored while Conner Sullivan rapped out a pair of singles as the Wildcats had eight hits against Beech starter Ian McWilliams.

Wilson Central was playing without the services of shortstop Gabe Jennings, who suffered a hand injury when he was hit by a pitch in Tuesday's 4-3 victory over Mt. Juliet. Shelton slid over from third to shortstop, and Aaron Hubbell started at third base.

With the win over the Bucs, the Wildcats improved to 22-10 on the season while Beech dropped to 29-8 headed into a Monday regional game at Clarksville High.

Wilson Central swept both the district regular season and tournament titles.
