Five games are on tap
Wilson Central High will serve as the host site for the inaugural Wilson County Basketball Showcase Saturday, Jan. 14.
Five games are on the schedule -- featuring local girls and boys teams matched up with out-of-town talent.
"We are hoping to grow this into a really special day of basketball," said Wilson Central girls coach John Wild, "maybe add a game or two next year."
Wilson Central's Lady Wildcats start the proceedings at 1:30 p.m. taking on three-time Division II state champion Brentwood Academy.
"This will be a test for our girls," Wild said. "Brentwood Academy is not a big team, but very athletic and long. Kids who are 5-9, 5-10 -- who can guard you all over the court."
Brentwood Academy stands 11-2 going into a Tuesday night game with rival Ensworth while Wilson central is undefeated (16-0) with a District 9-AAA contest at Station Camp Tuesday, Jan. 10.
The 3 p.m. contest finds Dickson County's girls playing nationally-ranked independent school Hamilton Heights Christian from Chattanooga.
"I think Dickson County is one of the top two or three teams in our substate," Wild said.
The Lady Cougars sport a record of 13-4 headed into a Tuesday, Jan. 10 contest vs. Independence.
Hamilton Heights is presently 11-1 on the season and sports a 6-6 ninth grader Kamilla Cardosa, from Brazil. The Lady Hawks are not a member of the TSSAA.
The Lebanon boys will play Dickson County at 4:30 p.m. followed by the LHS Devilettes tangling with Clarksville Rossview at 6 p.m.
The 7 p.m. nightcap features Wilson Central's boys vs. Rossview.
Admission is $5 per person and is good for a full day of basketball.
Showcase sponsors include: Wilson Bank & Trust, the law firm of Lannon & Williams and Balfour.
Plans call for Lebanon High's Campbell Brandon Gymnasium to host the 2018 Wilson County Showcase.
